What CRPR is all about.

The CRPR was formed in the middle nineties by individuals opposed to the intrusion of government into family life through grandparent visitation laws - so called "grandparent's rights." These laws were passed quietly in the 80's without realizing who would be using them and for what purpose. While never massively popular, the best estimate today is about 6,000 grandparents -- a minuscule 1/10 of one percent of the grandparents nationwide -- use these laws each year to disrupt the lives of fit parents and their children. The CRPR was specifically formed to both help families attacked through these laws as well to encourage responsible legislators to oppose extension of these statutes and hopefully, ultimately repeal the existing statutes.

  • Provides support to members via an e-mail forum and online resources.
  • Maintains representatives for every state.
  • Collects anecdotal and statistical information on grandparent visitation cases.
  • Compiles Case Law information and makes it publicly available.
  • Acts as the umbrella organization for state chapters.
  • Assists with lobbying state Legislatures.
  • Provided an Amicus Curiae brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in Troxel v. Granville and similar briefs in numerous landmark state court decisions.

  • CRPR is an all-volunteer organization.
  • We have numerous grandparents among our members.
  • The Coalition's organization is minimal; similar to the forum of ancient Athens or a town meeting. This organizational model is made possible by the Internet.
  • Prospective members are screened before acceptance. The only requirement is that each member have significant personal experience as a victim of third party visitation.

We, as an organization, do not become involved in custody or parental visitation issues except as they relate to grandparent visitation litigation. although Individual members are of course free to follow their conscience

We support and encourage grandparents who are raising children due to the untmely death of the parents or the parent's inability to raise their children. We believe that they deserve all the protections that fit parents should enjoy. Generally we believe for the vast majority of grandparents our beliefs and interests are aligned with theirs. The nurturing of a new generation of fit adults for the America of Tomorrow!

The Coalition does not support the abuse or neglect of children in any way. If the natural parent is unfit, the children should be protected by removal from the custody of an unfit parent.
